چکیده

Preface Invictus Out of the night that covers me, Black as the Pit from pole to pole, I thank whatever gods may be For my unconquerable soul. In the fell clutch of circumstance I have not winced nor cried aloud. Under the bludgeonings of chance My head is bloody, but unbowed. Beyond this place of wrath and tears Looms but the Horror of the shade, And yet the menace of the years Finds, and shall find, me unafraid. It matters not how strait the gate, How charged with punishments the scroll. I am the master of my fate: I am the captain of my soul.

Twiddling in cardiac resynchronization therapy: 'when length matters'.

We report on a 75-year-old woman who successfully underwent cardiac resynchronization therapy. Two weeks after implantation, right continuous pectoral stimulation appeared. Retraction and dislodgement of the right atrial and right ventricular leads as well as coiling of the three leads around the device generator were observed on chest radiography, but, surprisingly, the left ventricular lead r...

Implantable cardioverter-defibrillators: expanding indications and technologies.

CONTEXT Sudden cardiac death (SCD) is a major challenge facing contemporary cardiology. For an increasing number of patients, the current standard of care for the treatment and prevention of SCD is the implantable cardioverter-defibrillator (ICD). Since its introduction, there have been numerous advances in ICD technology, and indications for its use have expanded greatly in the past year. OB...

An Overview of Current Cardiac Resynchronization Therapy.

UNLABELLED Cardiac resynchronization therapy (CRT) is currently an established device therapy for heart failure (HF) patients. Existing knowledge of implantation techniques, advances in device-based technologies and clinical trial experience have all significantly impacted this evolving therapy in recent years. This review article will address the updated CRT guidelines, and potentially new ind...

Ventricular arrhythmias in super-responders to cardiac resynchronization therapy.

INTRODUCTION AND OBJECTIVES Cardiac resynchronization therapy is associated with improved quality of life and reduced morbidity and mortality in patients with severe ventricular dysfunction and wide QRS. However, its role in the reduction of ventricular arrhythmias is more controversial. METHODS We compared the incidence of ventricular arrhythmias in patients who were undergoing cardiac resyn...

Pacemaker-mediated tachycardia in an unconventional resynchronization device.

A 67-year-old male patient with heart failure and permanent atrial fibrillation underwent atrio-ventricular nodal ablation and a biventricular device implantation. Instead of a standard cardiac resynchronization therapy device, a DDD pacemaker was implanted with the left ventricular lead in the atrial channel. After the implant, a pacemaker-mediated tachycardia caused by T wave oversensing by t...
